Media: Performance, Public Art
Jessica Brown is a multidisciplinary, multimedia spectacle generator, creating disruptive & humorous work. Known as Lady J, she does visual, performance and public art, is a designer, entertainer, musician, and world builder — curated and unscripted, covering topics of Intersectionality and environmentalism through a pop culture lens. She creates flexible environments that facilitates an inclusive space for all people to explore, reflect, & discuss the challenges of social justice issues while overlaying her own lived experience as a woman of African American Heritage living in the US as a means to engage and move toward change and inclusivity.
She’s an Assistant Professor of Industrial Design at Rhode Island of Design where she serves on the University’s Board of Social Equity & Inclusion (SEI) and the current 18th Presidential Search Committee and a community building in her department.
Within the Providence community she serves in the African American Ambassadors Group under Mayor Elorza to advance the progress of her people on the path to Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations.
She is the leader and musician of a womxn’s activist party band, Clam Jam Brass Band, the musical director of the Performance Art and Action project Brick x Brick, on the organizing committee of Providence Honk! Fest (Pronk!) and family member of the Haus of Glitter.
In her spare time, she watches reruns of Designing Women and Golden Girls and floats on the water to restore her soul.
